Searching for Books
Use the searching tips below to help find the title you are looking for.

If your first attempt to search was not successful use the tips below:

1. Use the ISBN of the book if you know it!- this is the fastest and most reliable way of finding the book you want. If you have access to a copy of the book the ISBN is often above the bar code on the back of the book and always has the letters ISBN in front of it ( to avoid confusing it with the barcode!) eg entering 0471170461 will only find Fundamentals of Biochemistry by Donald Voet.

2. If either the title or author name is unusual use this alone.

3. If the title is short especially if a single common word like Biology it may be better to use the author name to find the book.

4. If the search returns too many entries try combining the searches by entering both title words and author name.

5. Always check for spelling mistakes as this is a common cause of search errors.

Title Only Searches
Enter the main words of the title.

It is simpler to leave out common words such as 'the', 'an', 'and' and 'of'. For example, 'fundamentals biochemistry' is the same as 'Fundamentals of Biochemistry'.

Author Only Searches
This works well especially if the author has an uncommon name. If the name is common eg Smith the search is less likely to be successful.

You may enter the author's name in any of the ways listed below:

    * Surname Firstname - Snell Richard
    * Firstname Surname - Richard Snell
    * Surname - Snell

The search will find books in our database under names that seem to match your search specification. Sometimes an author is listed just by their initials so it might be worth modifying your search by either just entering a surname (especially if their name is not a common one)

It is difficult to search for books with two or more authors who share a surname, such as Donald Voet and Judith Voet. Try searching for books using just the surname (eg Voet).

Here are some examples.

    * Entering "Harold Ellis" finds books by Harold Ellis.
    * Entering "Ellis" finds books by Harold Ellis as well as books by other authors named Ellis.
