[edit] GOONS

Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe, along with a select handful of friends, delve into their personal memorabilia and their memories to piece together the history of the Goons, under the guidance of Spike's long-suffering manager, Norma Farnes.

The Goons first came together in the Grafton Arms pub in London's Victoria. Spike Milligan was working on comedy scripts with the landlord, when he was introduced to pub regulars Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine. The four first went on air at the BBC on 28 May 1951 as The Crazy People. It wasn't until the second season in 1952 that the BBC agreed to change the name to The Goon Show, by which time the show was well on its way to becoming an essential part of Britain's comedy heritage. There is still a huge interest in the Goons, with each new generation discovering afresh the anarchio humour which has had such a massive influence on so many of today's top comedy performers. This unique collection of memories, scripts and personal contributions from Spike Milligan, Sir Harry Secombe, Eric Sykes and a select band of Goons aficionados forms a fascinating history of this enduring comic phenomenon.
