The text covers dental materials used in general practice as well as various dental specialties. History of materials is also covered and provides the reader with the necessary background information to relate to the development and modifications of newer materials, and the advantages of the newer materials. This text can also be used by first year Dental Students for a preliminary discussion of dental materials. But, the text is written specifically with the Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene student in mind. Chapter on Preventive Materials will be expanded to include more information on fluoride containing materials (gels, varnishes, and mouthrinses). Chapter on Abrasion and Polishing will be enhanced to highlight appropriate and inappropriate selection of agents for specific restorative materials. Chapter on Implants will be slightly expanded to include care of the device, including home care. The Chapter on Composites will be expanded to include new materials, such as fiber reinforced materials for crown and bridge, packable and flowable composites, and new compomers. Expanded discussion of dental ceramics, dental cements, and new gold alloys for PFM restorations. This provides the reader with the most up-to-date information on these key dental materials. Manufacturers Website information will be included in the appendix material. More problems solving and clinical relevance examples are included where possible.
